A recent study by the Ontario Construction Secretariat indicates that organized construction trades have 23% fewer injuries on ICI construction work sites than non-union workers.

It is not surprising that better trained and supported organized workers should perform better than workers who have no organized skills training or safety support.

And while it is good news to know that we are comparatively safer, we MUST NOT forget that our real mission is to eliminate workplace injuries: 10-20 workers die on construction sites each year and another 135 are critically injured ! Despite the confirmation that safety training makes a difference, we still have a LOT of work to do to reduce injuries on every job, every day (please be safe out there) !
